Please do take care to read the information thoroughly as it is there to help you understand fault codes and to keep you safe. There are also some help, tips and hints with a lot of the fault codes published here that you usually will not find anywhere else and, as we learn, we add more information so if you can't find what you need please ask in the forums.
Before using this section please understand that fault or error codes are used as a diagnostic aid, they are not a replacement for diagnostic skill on the part of the person repairing the product and are not in any way usually going to point to the precise component that is faulty. All they do is give you an idea of where to start looking for the fault.

OE
Washing machine has failed to drain the water
- Issue:
- This fault code can mean that the pump is faulty as well as blocked, first of all check for a blockage and, if none is found then the likelihood is that the drain pump is faulty. Should you need it, the most common drain pump used on LG washers and washer dryers is this one.
On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for 800, 500 and No Spin being lit or flashing.
- Advice:
- Check pump filter is clear and there are no obstructions
- Check the drain hose for obstruction
- Check the drain hose is not kinked
- Check the drain pump filter and clean if required
- Check the air chamber and pressure sensor hose
- Check drain pump, normal resistance is 152-175Ω
- Check drain pump rotor
- Check connections to water drain pump
IE
Water fill time out
- Issue:
- The washing machine has failed to fill with water in a reasonable time.
Essentially this error code is telling you that, for some reason, there is no water being detected filling into the washing machine. The most likely cause of that would be a water valve failure, commonly used water valves for LG can be found here.
On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for Pre & Main being lit or flashing.
Water Inlet error - Pre-set water level not reached within 8 minutes or normal level within 25 minutes since inlet valve operated- Check water pressure. - Advice:
- Check water supply is on, clear and not frozen
- Check the air chamber and pressure sensor hose for blockages
- Check water inlet valve
- Check wiring to water inlet valve
- Check connections to water inlet valve
- Check the water valve resistances, normal is 3.5-4.5KΩ
- Check the main control PCB
dE
Washing machine door detected as being open
- Issue:
- Door open error code can also be displayed as "dOE"
Very simple error, the fault code indicates that either the door is indeed open or that the door lock or door interlock mechanism cannot inform the electronics that the door is properly closed. LG door locks are known to and do commonly fail, the common one used in most LG washing machines and washer dryers can be found here with a link to a lower cost alternative part. However the door handle (can be found here) is also a common source of trouble and, if the catch doesn't engage into the lock properly you will get this fault code being displayed.
On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the light for the door lock being lit or flashing.
- Advice:
- Check door is closed correctly and latched
- Check door handle for damage or wear
- Check door safety lock if inoperative replace door lock
- Check door lock wiring
- If there is a clicking sound once or twice when the Start/Pause button is pressed the main control board may be faulty

Washing machine has detected an imbalanced load
- Issue:
- This error code is more for information purposes than actually a fault as such. What the machine is telling you is that it has been unable to sort the laundry load and correctly spin without a risk of damage due to an unbalanced load. This error will clear when you restart the machine but do sort the laundry reduce or increase the load as required and for more information on load imbalances please see this article.
On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 being lit or flashing. - Advice:
- Reload the washing machine and attempt to spin again
- Check the installation of the washing machine for level and balance
- Check for small loads as small loads will cause an imbalance error
SE
Motor fault detected
- Issue:
- Can also be caused by be main PCB
This is not a good fault code to see as it will generally be correct and either the washing machine drive motor or the main electronic control PCB is faulty. - Advice:
- Check motor
- Check motor tacho
- Check all connections and blocks to the motor
- Check connections on the main control module
- Check main control module
CE
Current error to the washing machine
- Issue:
- Can be a short circuit to motor or PCB
This can be caused by a fault on your home electrics and, if that is the case then you will need an electrician to check your house wiring for any abnormality. - Advice:
- Check mains supply
- Check main control module
- Check main drive motor or stator
LE
Washing mchine motor locked error
- Issue:
- See fault code "DE" above as the some information applies to this error code with the addition (thanks BigCol) of the last on the list below, where trapped objects can cause this error code.
Also can be caused by large loads on gentle cycles liek Perm Press, Delicates, Hand Wash and Wool or Silk programs. The gentle cycles can register a problem with the motor if large loads are used on these programs. - Advice:
- Check door is closed correctly and latched
- Check door handle for damage or wear
- Check door safety lock if inoperative replace door lock
- Check door lock wiring
- Check the rotor assembly for cracks or breaks in the magnet
- Check the hall sensor resistance, usually 5-15Ω
- Check the resistance between V-U/UW/W-v on the stator, normally 8-11Ω
- Check for any objects trapped that are stopping the drum from rotating
FE
Washing machine has detected an overfill situation
- Issue:
Overflow error - Water automatically pumped out because too much water is in the tub
This error code can be caused by overfoaming which is a result of overloading (see this article) or by overdosing or, incorrect detergent as the pressure sensor will falsely read that there is too much water in the washing machine.
Also check the pressure sensor and that the machine has not actually overfilled with water.
On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for synthetic, wool, blanket or pre and main being lit or flashing.
- Advice:
- Check for overfoaming or over soaping
- Check the air chamber and the pressure switch hose
- Check water level sensor
- Check wiring to water pressure sensor
- Check connections to water level sensor
- Check main electronic controller
tE
Water heating error detected
- Issue:
- For this error code you need to check both the water heater or element and thermistor, basically the washing machine is reporting a fault on the heating circuit with this fault code but it is not capable of identifying exactly where the fault actually lies.
On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for 95, 60, 40 and cold being lit or flashing. - Advice:
- Check water heating element
- Check heater for contunuity, usually about 24.5-28.5Ω for washing
- Check steam heater for continuity usually about 42.5-49.5Ω
- Check thermistor or temperature sensor
- Check the thermistor resistance, usually about 53KΩ at 25˚C
- Check wiring to water heating element
- Check connections to water heating element and temperature sensor
PE
Water level sensor fault
- Issue:
- This fault code is fairly self-explanatory and tells you that the washing machine has detected an error with the pressure sensor or pressure switch. It is rare to see this error code on LG washers.
On non-display panel models this fault code can be shown by the lights for fuzzy, heating and speedy or super, normal and hold being lit or flashing. - Advice:
- Check water level sensor
- Check wiring to water pressure sensor
- Check connections to water level sensor
- Check main electronic controller
PF
Power failure
- Issue:
- The washing machine has experienced a power failure or power input error. Note that the washing machine must be connected directly to a power socket and not a multi connector according to LG.
- Advice:
- Check power supply cord is connected correctly and secure
- Check that the washing machine is not connected to a multi-way connecting strip
- Check wiring and connections between mains radio interference filter and control module
- Check the power LED is on, if not replace main control PCB
- Check the connectors to the display card to the main control card
IE
Inlet water supply error
- Issue:
- The initial expected water level isn’t reached in 8 minutes or the final preset water level isn’t reached in 25 minutes. Make sure that water supply faucets for the washer are open. Check the inlet water valves. If the valves are defective, replace the inlet water valve assembly. If the water valves are okay, replace the main electronic control board.
