Cannon one of the leading brand names in gas cookers and gas fires in the UK market and is well recognised with UK consumers.

The Cannon foundry was established in 1826 near Bilston in the West Midlands and it specialised in the manufacture of household and general ironmongery. It was well known throughout the world as one of the main exporters of high quality iron products during the 19th and early 20th Century.

Cannon introduced their first gas cooker in 1895 and their first gas fire shortly after the turn of the 20th Century. Cannon had a world first in the 1890's with their green enamelled iron 'Chef Cooker' as it was the first ever coloured kitchen appliance. This is demonstrated by the fact that Cannon have consistently remained as the number one brand in gas cookers and has a growing export market in the Far East and Australasia.

In 1935 the Cannon Iron Foundries became a Public Company. In 1989 Cannon, who were by now also part of the GEC Group became part of the new division called 'General Domestic Appliances'.

It appears that Cannon no longer produce heating appliances such as gas fires.

Of course at this point in time this meant that Cannon became part of the Hotpoint Group in the UK which consisted of Hotpoint, Creda and now Cannon which in 2001 came under the ownership of the Indesit Company (at the time of buying The Indesit Company traded as Merloni Elettrodomestici) which makes the brand now essentially an extension of the giant Italian parent company.
