I wash my dishes manually and keep them in the dishwasher, as there isn't any space on the dish rack near the sink (it is a shared kitchen). I don't run the dishwasher, just keep the dishes in it.

My homeowner recently commented that keeping it there would cause it to go rusty. I'm confused, as I believed dishwashers were meant to withstand years of washing, and being wet in general.

Will storing dishes after washing in a dishwasher cause issues?
