My machine is leaking
A leaking washing machine can lead to major water damage so it’s essential to turn it off immediately. You should then check the pipes and hoses to ensure they are tightly secured, whilst internal hoses can also be checked by simply removing the front or rear panel. Even the slightest crack on the hose or loose joint can result in a leak, so the solution may be simpler than you think, however, if problems persist it’s always best to call on a professional in your local area. Here at Appliance Centre, we’re regularly providing washing machine repairs in North London, and we’re well versed in fixing leaking machines.
My machine will not spin
This is the most common issue but there may be a simple fix. We always advise our customers in North London to check that the switch on the door or the lid is not damaged or broken. This switch controls the locking mechanism for the door, but the machine will not be able to operate if the door is not locked securely. It can incur damage through regular usage, but to check to see whether your switch is in perfect working order, simply press and release it, and listen out for the reassuring clicking noise.
There’s a foul smell that won’t go away
If your washing machine smells, it’s likely there is an overgrowth of bacteria, such as mould or the accumulation of lint and detergent. Mould thrives in environments where it’s warm and damp, and unfortunately, washing machines can provide the perfect home, allowing the fungus to not only survive, but thrive, especially if there is a build up of leftover detergent or lint.
This bacteria will usually be located in the lint filter, the rubber seal on the door or the detergent drawer. If you’re able to locate and remove the mould, the smell should go away, however, it’s always best to run a regular hot wash from time to time. Be sure to keep the drum empty but just add a touch of white vinegar to kill any accumulated bacteria and neutralise horrid smells.
My machine is shaking
When a washing machine shakes it can cause damage to flooring, kitchen units or worktops, so it’s important to check whether there are any clothes stuck in the door or piled up on one side of the drum as this can effect the machine’s rotation. You may also want to check whether the feet are even, and if they are misaligned it’s easy to adjust them yourself to the perfect height.
